Cherry blossom season at the Garden typically starts about mid-March. The first species to bloom are the weeping Higan cherries (Prunus pendula), which have cascading pink flowers. The popular, white-flowered Yoshino cherries (Prunus x yedoensis) can bloom anywhere between mid to late March into early April. All other individual cherry species also bloom between mid to late March into early April.
Peak bloom time, especially for the Yoshino cherries, is heavily dependent on weather and varies from year to year. Predictions often can’t be made until a few days before. For up-to-date information on when cherry trees will be at peak, we recommend following the Missouri Botanical Garden’s social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram for the most recent updates.
